![]() Before teaching at SUNY Delhi, I did research at the universities of Alabama and Oklahoma. My background is in microbial ecology: the interactions between bacteria and algae in freshwater ecosystems. Marsha Stock ,Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of Biology I also teach an online course at Purchase on the Search for Life in the Universe. I teach in and recently became coordinator for the Science in the Modern World program, a science seminar for non-scientists that is part of our first-year program. I've consulted with a number of SUNY and non-SUNY campuses on their adoption of Moodle, and am involved in several SUNY groups and initiatives, such as DOODLE (the directors of online and distance education for SUNY) and the FACT2 Teaching and Learning task force. My team and I are assembling a suite of open source and Web 2.0 tools, built around the college's adoption of Moodle as our learning management system in 2009 and our addition of Mahara ePortfolios, to support Purchase's strategic goal of becoming a learner-centered institution with documented student learning. I spend my time supporting course design and faculty development programming, promoting the development of virtual and physical learning spaces for campus, and generally assisting faculty in their adoption of innovative instructional approaches. I'm Director of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center at Purchase College SUNY. She has also served on the Provost's Open SUNY Committee during the first two years of the Open SUNY launch. She is one of Fredonia's FACT2 representatives, and is active in the FACT2 Task Force on Mobile Learning. "Kg" also works with SUNY CPD as a professional development facilitator this spring, she is hosting an asynchronous course on grant writing. Her most recent initiatives have been with local school districts intent on enhancing their blended and online learning options helping Fredonia pilot its new seminar for first-year students and introducing digital citizenship to Honors students. At Fredonia, she co-teaches the campus' required (online) course for novice online instructors. She frequently works with higher ed faculty and support staff, with a focus on technology to enhance campus-based and online learning. She is widely recognized for her expertise in helping P-12 teachers develop skills in the use of evidence-based practices, especially those strengthened with pedagogically sound technology. She has worked with preservice and in-service educators for 35 years, teaching from preschool through doctoral levels. Kathleen Gradel is a Professor in the College of Education, SUNY Fredonia, NY, where she teaches cross-departmental online, blended, and face-to-face coursework, from first-year to Master's students. ![]()
